Preston North End keeper Andy Lonergan is out for the season with a fresh knee injury.Preston North End goalkeeper Andy Lonergan will miss the rest of the season after sustaining another serious knee injury.
The Preston-born custodian, who turned 22 on Wednesday, suffered the injury while training with loan club Wycombe Wanderers on Thursday.
The former England Under-21 international was forced to end his month-long loan spell with The Chairboys before returning to Deepdale to receive further treatment.
Following a visit to the surgeon on Friday, Lonergan was informed that he has damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee and will not return to action this season.
The news is a major setback for Lonergan, who had been in the process of returning from a similar knee ligament injury he suffered last February.
"Obviously, this is devastating news for Andy and our thoughts are with him at this time," Preston boss Billy Davies told the club's official website.
"We do know, however, that Andy has the courage and determination to overcome a hurdle like this, he has done it once before and myself, the physio and the specialists are all 100 percent certain he can come back once again a fitter and stronger player."
