David Nugent is determined to help Preston gain promotion to the Premiership after putting the speculation about his future behind him.
Nugent was linked with a move away from Deepdale in the January transfer window but he insists he never came close to leaving.
The striker produced a match-winning performance on Saturday as Preston moved up to second in the Championship with a 3-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday, and he hopes the goals will continue to fly in for the rest of the season.
"I'm over all the speculation about me. The club didn't want to sell me and I was happy with that. I will give it 110 per cent and try to win games for them," he said.
"I never thought about leaving. I'm totally committed to Preston.
"I think the speculation has helped in a positive way because, when I see big Premiership clubs coming in, it gets me going.
"Hopefully my form will carry on until the end of the season and I can keep scoring goals and help Preston get promoted."
However, Nugent admits he will have to reconsider his options if Preston do not manage to gain promotion.
"If we get promoted I'll be over the moon. If we don't then maybe I'll have to check my career out and I might have to further it elsewhere," he explained.
"We have a massive chance now we have moved up into second place. But Derby are flying at the moment and we have still got to catch them."
