MEGSON IN HUGHES BUST-UP

GARY MEGSON has had a bust-up with star striker Lee Hughes, accusing him of not being focused in the latter stages of West Brom's 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Baggies boss was furious after seeing the carrot-topped assassin, who hit his 20th strike of the season at The Hawthorns on Saturday, sharing a joke with Wednesday defender Des Walker.

"I saw one of our players laughing and joking with one of the Sheffield Wednesday players," said Megson.

"I wouldn't mind so much if we had been winning but we were trying to salvage a point and the player in question clearly wasn't focussed."

Meanwhile, there has also been speculation that Megson could be set to swoop for Blackpool striker John Murphy to boost his attacking options ahead of the transfer deadline.

Murphy, like Hughes, is 24 and has also hit 20 goals this season, which have been crucial in Blackpool's superb form of late that has taken them into fifth place in the table.

It would seem unlikely that The Seasiders would sell Murphy before the deadline as it would deal a major blow to their hopes of gaining promotion this season - and hindering the position that nine wins out of 12 has put them in.

Megson may like to bring in a striker, as Jason Roberts is one booking away from a suspension and perennial crowd favourite "Super" Bob Taylor has looked out of sorts of late.

However, with limited funds available it seems that tightening up The Baggies' defence is Megson's first priority, with a renewed bid for Leicester defender Phil Gilchrist still not being ruled out.

One boost for Albion, as they prepare for this weekend's derby with Wolves, is that Slovakian full back Igor Balis is fully fit after recovering from a groin injury.
