Megson puts faith in Hughes

West Brom boss Gary Megson will continue to select Lee Hughes, after the striker pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Hughes appeared at Coventry Crown Court on Friday to enter his plea regarding an accident on the outskirts of the city on November 23 last year.

A man died in the incident but Hughes pleaded not guilty to the charge during a brief court hearing.

He will now link up with the Baggies squad for Saturday's First Division clash at Preston, with Megson having no qualms in picking the 27-year-old.

Hughes scored his first goal since the accident in his last appearance against Watford and Megson admits he does not discuss the off-field matter with the forward.

"Lee's in the squad for the Preston game and will join us after the case is adjourned," said Megson.

"I also think Lee played his best for a long time the other day against Watford. It wasn't just the goal he got but the work-rate and effort he put in.

"He was much more like his old self. I haven't really spoken to Lee about things but all we've done all along is try to do the right thing for West Brom."
