Robson keen to keep Kanu

Bryan Robson is hopeful of delaying Kanu's departure to the African Cup of Nations.

West Brom boss Bryan Robson is hopeful of delaying Kanu's departure to the African Cup of Nations.

Kanu is due to link up with Nigeria on Friday for this month's tournament, but Robson is keen to keep him for this weekend's FA Cup clash with Reading and the Premiership meeting at Wigan before letting the former Arsenal man go.

Robson is planning to hold talks with the Nigerian Football Association later this week in a bid to prolong Kanu's stay at the Hawthorns.

"We will be speaking to the Nigerian FA this week sometime and hopefully we will have Kanu for another two matches before he has to go," said Robson.

"Kanu's first game is on January 24 for Nigeria and he would still have a week to prepare with the team if he can remain with us until after the Wigan game.

"We are just asking the Nigerian FA to be helpful because we've got a massive game with Wigan. If we can delay Kanu's departure until then, it is not as if he is going to miss any matches."

Meanwhile, Robson has revealed Zoltan Gera is still struggling with a hernia problem.

Gera made a brief substitute appearance against Manchester United on Boxing Day after two months out, but he is still struggling with the injury.

"Zoltan's hernia is still playing him up to a degree. He is very sore," added Robson.

"He is getting close to being fit but it is taking a lot longer than we first thought."
