Earnshaw has recently handed in two transfer requests at The Hawthorns after becoming frustrated at failing to claim a place in the starting line-up.
Baggies boss Robson is reluctant to let Earnshaw leave as he is losing Diomansy Kamara and Kanu to the African Cup of Nations.
But he also concedes it is hard to guarantee Earnshaw regular football until he learns to improve his all-round game.
Robson has given the Wales international a DVD containing highlights of the parts of Earnshaw's play which require improvement.
Junichi Inamoto has already derived the benefit of this policy of Robson's and the West Brom chief now hopes Earnshaw will follow suit.
"There were things Inamoto had to do to be successful in The Premiership," said Robson. "For him it was about tracking back and tackling.
"There is more to being a striker in The Premiership than just getting the goals.
"That's what Earnshaw has got to take on board.
"I can only point it out and show him, it's up to Earnshaw whether he does it."
