Steve Watson admits West Brom's players are 'shook up' following the departure of manager Bryan Robson.
The former England captain parted company with The Baggies on Monday after 22 months in the position.
Results since the start of the calendar year were cited as the primary reason for Robson's exit, with his assistant Nigel Pearson assuming caretaker charge.
Experienced defender Watson concedes the players were surprised to learn of Robson's departure prior to training.
But Watson is hoping The Baggies can quickly shrug off the upheaval ahead of Tuesday's Carling Cup tie with Cheltenham Town.
"I've got to be honest with you, the lads are still a bit shook up," Watson told Sky Sports News.
"We just got called into the dressing room and found out just before training.
"It's one of those things, it's happened before.
"We're devastated for the gaffer, he was really upset.
"But that's football, we've got to get on with it."
