West Brom boss Roy Hodgson has revealed there are 'certain players' on his radar for the summer if the Baggies beat the drop this season.
Albion sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth, who has proved successful in luring star signings such as Peter Odemwingie and Somen Tchoyi to The Hawthorns in the past, has recently watched four international games in five days as part of a scouting trip.
And Hodgson, who is thought to be interested in Hoffenheim striker Vedad Ibisevic, says he and Ashworth have discussed his summer transfer plans.
But the Baggies boss insists everything depends on which tier his side, who are currently just one point clear of the Premier League drop zone, are competing in next season.
Hodgson told the Birmingham Mail: "They want input from me on profiles of what I might be looking for for future signings.
"We have had several meetings but they have been reasonably general.
"We haven't been able to specify particular targets, not least of all because we aren't sure what division we will be playing in.
"There are certain players we would target without a shadow of a doubt if we can stay up but those players would drop off our list if we went down because they would be out of our range."
Hodgson, who hosts former employers Liverpool at The Hawthorns this weekend, added: "It's a balancing act at the moment.
"A lot of good work is being done by Dan Ashworth, (and scouts) Lee Darnbrough and Bobby Hope.
"These people are working their socks off every day covering as much as possible with all the scouts we have across Europe.
"The scouting system here is good but when we will be able to sit down and specify targets and put names to positions, I don't know.
"At the moment my focus is still mainly on the weekly event of playing in the Premier League."
