Midfielder hopes hat-trick is stepping stone to first-team role

A final day hat-trick provided the perfect tonic for Somen Tchoyi's frustrating first season in the Premier League with West Brom. The Cameroon international, a signing of former boss Roberto Di Matteo last August, was mainly used as a substitute by Roy Hodgson following the Baggies manager's arrival at The Hawthorns in February. Tchoyi has revealed that he had previously spoken to his manager about his disappointment at a lack of first-team opportunities during West Brom's climb away from relegation danger. But the 28-year-old midfielder hit a second-half hat-trick to drag West Brom back from three goals down to a surprising 3-3 draw at Newcastle on Sunday and he is optimistic he will now be set for better things at The Hawthorns, Tchoyi told Sky Sports after the draw at St James' Park: "I am pleased because I talked with the coach and said I was not happy because I needed more time on the pitch. "But I hope next year I will have it."
