Manager Michael Appleton to ask West Brom about extension

Portsmouth are set to enquire about the possibility of retaining West Brom loan duo Joe Mattock and George Thorne. Both players' current deals are set to expire on January 2nd, with three games to be played before that date. The pair have made an impression at Fratton Park, with both making three appearances since their moves in November. During that period, Pompey have won two and drawn once, helping them move away from the Championship's relegation zone and up to 16th in the table. Manager Michael Appleton has signalled his intentions to keep both players and will speak to Baggies boss Roy Hodgson next week.

Brief conversations

Appleton told the Portsmouth News: "I have had brief conversations with Roy to let him know how the lads are doing. But in terms of extending it, nothing has been broached yet. "Maybe conversations will be held next week over whether it is a possibility. "I think they knew from day one that my thoughts were that we would like to keep them longer. I've just not had the conversation yet to back that up. "Whether West Brom will allow me to do that is a completely different scenario. It depends on how well their team are doing at the time. "I will definitely ask, though."
