West Brom defender set for talks over fresh contract

Skysports.com understands that West Bromwich Albion are set to hold talks with England Under-21 star Craig Dawson over a new contract. The 21-year-old defender signed for the Baggies in August 2010, but he stayed with Rochdale for the whole of the season before linking up with West Brom last year. He has progressed well since arriving at the Hawthorns and is now pushing for a regular first-team place. A host of Championship clubs have been looking to try and take him on loan this season, but Roy Hodgson has rebuffed every approach as he sees the centre-half as part of his immediate plans. Dawson has also been called into the England Under-21 squad and been particularly impressive for Stuart Pearce's Young Lions with four goals in six appearances. Now West Brom are looking to tie him down to a new long-term contract and talks are believed to have begun.
