Albion are currently on a decent run of results, having won two and drawn two of their last five games - those victories being their first under the Spaniard.
The Baggies are currently 16th in the table, three points clear of the drop zone with five more matches to play, one more than the three sides directly below them.
"It is impossible that West Brom will go down - it is not really even something we have been thinking about," said Mel. "As for my future, we will talk about that in a few weeks' time."
When asked if he was enjoying the job, the 51-year-old - appointed in January - said: "Yes, of course. People have really been very kind towards me.
"I'm at a very professional club and I'm sure that I am going to go on and achieve the objective I was brought here for."
Mel says he has spoken to his players about maintaining their self-belief in matches after they threw away another healthy lead last weekend.
Saturday saw Albion pegged back for the second home match in succession after racing in front early on. The Baggies had been 3-0 up inside 31 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur before shipping two points, a capitulation which followed their stalemate against Cardiff where they had led 2-0 with just nine minutes on the clock.
To only secure only two points when six looked assured has been a huge source of frustration to Mel who is calling on his side to ensure they concentrate completely for the full 90 minutes.
"Yes, this is something we have talked about this week," he said. "We have talked about not changing the style of play and our mentality, and actually believing in ourselves.
"I think it is true to say that Tottenham made us change our style of play and that proved to be detrimental. But I think that overall, we still had a great game."
