West Brom boss Alan Irvine admits he is happier in the shadows than centre stage as he reflects on a satisfactory start to his Hawthorns reign.
The former Everton assistant manager, recruited following Pepe Mel's departure in the summer, has had a steady start, including victory at Tottenham as well as Monday's 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
"When I first came and had to walk out on the pitch I was uncomfortable," he said.
"I'm much happier being in the background. I don't feel comfortable walking out on the pitch but my family were having a great laugh because they knew I would be hating it.
"I prefer the quiet side. I'd much rather our fans were happy with me than unhappy, there's no doubt about that. I know how quickly things can change.
"Like everyone else it's great if they think I'm doing a good job but I can't control that other than to get the team ready and perform.
"The players have seen a nasty side from me," he said ahead of Saturday's match against Crystal Palace.
"I'm from Glasgow - we usually have a nasty side! But there hasn't been the need, they are extremely professional. I have very little reason not to be happy.
"Nobody likes horrible things. Every manager works extremely hard to win games and no one likes it when they are being hammered. It doesn't help but it is understandable."
