West Brom manager Tony Pulis has hinted Saido Berahino could play in the Premier League clash against Southampton at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

The England U21 international is in contention for a place in the squad despite his threat to go on strike.

Berahino claimed last week he would not play for Albion again after the club rejected two deadline day bids from Tottenham.

Pulis is determined to move on though, and hopes the 22-year-old will show the right attitude.

"I have no problems at all, he could play on Saturday," said Pulis.

"The respect Saido should have shown the football club and supporters wasn't there. He has to show them more respect.

"My big issue with Saido is he is immature at times in the way he reacts. Something he has done in the two windows since I've been here, his reaction has not been sensible.

"For him to want to go to another club, to have the ambition to do that, I wish there were more players in my dressing room who had the ambition and quality to want to do that. But the problem with it is the way he has gone about it and the way it has been managed.

"The way it has been managed has been poor. But I'm more concerned with getting Saido back playing football."

First-team coach Gerry Francis believes Berahino will pick up his form and put his frustration behind him.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Francis said: "He's been fine.  I think a number of people have had a little chat with him, I've had a chat with him myself, and I think he realises now that he's got to get his head down and work really hard.

"He's been out for three or four weeks, he hasn't played, so he needs to get a little bit of work on his fitness, which he's been doing this week. He's trained very well and as Tony said, he is in contention for Saturday's game.

"I don't think there is any problem with the rest of the team. He's a nice kid, I think everybody makes mistakes. I think he realises he has made a mistake with his reaction as the window closed.

"The reason people wanted him is because of what he did on the pitch. The 20 goals he scored last season, his ability on the pitch, and he realises now he's got to get back on the pitch and do the business again because in the future there is still the opportunity to get the move he wants or to stay with West Bromwich Albion.

"But the most important thing is he's got to get out on that pitch and play again."
