Ipswich substitute Brett Pitman scored a dramatic 89th-minute goal to seal a 2-1 win for Ipswich over luckless Reading.

The striker brilliantly converted Luke Varney's cross to cap a game that had been dismal up until Ryan Fraser's 57th-minute strike.

Luke Chambers played a brilliant ball down the right flank to release Sears whose low cross was controlled by Fraser, who then showed great composure to coolly find the net off the inside of the post.

Ipswich were then pegged back by Garath McCleary's penalty after Hal Robson-Kanu was tripped and after Ipswich left-back Jonas Knudsen went close to opening his Ipswich account, Pitman slid in to perfectly meet Varney's cross as the substitutes combined to net all three points.

Sheffield Wednesday proved their credentials in the Championship promotion race after securing a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Hillsborough.

The Owls remain a point adrift of the top six after Kieran Lee's second-half strike cancelled out Andre Gray's 18th goal of the season.

Burnley had made a lightning start to the game, with Gray testing Keiren Westwood with less than 30 seconds on the clock before grabbing his goal two-and-a-half minutes later with a simple tap-in after fine work from Sam Vokes, who spun his man before rolling the ball across the face of goal.

Scott Arfield then blazed over from 12 yards before Wednesday finally warmed to their task with Fernando Forestieri twice going close either side of Ross Wallace fizzing a dipping effort just over the bar.

And they were level three minutes after the break when Barry Bannan clipped the ball in to Atdhe Nuhiu whose header down was perfect for Lee to finish from eight yards.

Both sides huffed and puffed in search of a winner but they had to settle for a point apiece.

Derby's automatic promotion hopes suffered another setback after they were held to a goalless draw by Preston at the iPro Stadium.

Highlights of the 0-0 draw between Derby and Preston from the Sky Bet Championship.

Although Derby had plenty of possession, they hardly created a clear chance against a disciplined and determined Preston side as their winless run was stretched to six league games.

Jeff Hendrick flashed an early shot inches wide before Paul Gallagher forced Derby keeper Scott Carson into an acrobatic save to tip over a 25-yard shot in the 27th minute.

Derby continued to press, but Preston broke dangerously in the 55th minute, forcing Carson to dive to his right to save a 20-yard Daniel Johnson shot.

Both sides went close in the final minutes with Jason Shackell blocking an Adam Reach shot before Craig Bryson fired just wide from the edge of the area in the 87th minute.

Bolton staged a dramatic late comeback to salvage a deserved point in a 2-2 draw against Wolves at Molineux.

Highlights of the 2-2 draw between Wolves and Bolton from the Sky Bet Championship.

Bottom-of-the-table Bolton were trailing 2-0 after a third-minute strike from debutant Joe Mason and a 77th-minute goal from substitute James Henry.

But their battling qualities shone through as Wellington Silva reduced the arrears eight minutes from time before Dean Moxey deflected home Stephen Dobbie's 30-yard free-kick in the 88th minute.

Wolves broke the deadlock just seconds after they could have fallen behind themselves.

Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme produced a stunning save to tip a 20-yard drive from Jay Spearing around the post and from the resulting corner, Wolves surged upfield through Bjorn Sigurdarson, whose shot was well saved by Ben Amos only for the rebound to fall to Mason, who had a simple finish.

Bolton responded well without reward and were 2-0 down when Henry, who had only been on the pitch for two minutes, waltzed into the penalty area and curled a low drive past Amos.

That looked to have finally ended battling Bolton's challenge but the impressive Silva gave them hope when he nodded the ball home at the far post.

That set up a thrilling finale that Bolton capped off when Moxey got the deftest of touches to Stephen Dobbie's long-range free-kick.
