Robins miss out on Clarke

Cheltenham have revealed the club missed out on Wolves striker Leon Clarke.

Cheltenham Town manager John Ward has expressed his disappointment at missing out on Wolves striker Leon Clarke.

Ward believed he had pulled off a major transfer coup by bringing in the 21-year-old striker on loan, only for the Whaddon Road club to be beaten to his signature by Championship side Plymouth.

"It's a shame," Ward told the club's official website.

"He's a striker of some reputation and I thought at one stage we had got him.

"We've been particular in terms of where we wanted to go and what we wanted to bring in.

"I said some experience and some standing if we could, and Leon fitted that bill because although he's not very old, he's got experience of Championship football and some standing of scoring at that level."
