Mick McCarthy had never seen Michael Kightly play before he came to Wolves.
Mick McCarthy has admitted that he had not seen Michael Kightly play before the 21-year-old arrived at Molineux and that the credit must go to his assistant for spotting his potential.
Kightly arrived at Wolves on loan in November last year before making a permanent switch from Grays Athletic for just £25,000.
And the Wolves boss has benefited greatly since his arrival, with the winger having netted five goals already.
But it was McCarthy's assistant Ian Evans who advised him to give the youngster his chance in the Championship.
"I had never seen him play before, but 'Taff' had and that was good enough for me, although I did my homework on him and got to know a lot about him.
"From day one in training, he got the ball and ran at a defender and you could see the rest of the boys thinking 'who the heck is this?'. They really sat up and paid attention.
"What Michael proves is that there are players out there who are hungry, young and will be successful if they are given the chance."
