Oakley is one of the club`s longest servers and the new and improved deal ensures that his loyalty will be rewarded with a testimonial game after serving a decade with The Saints.
Saints manager Gordon Strachan recognises the 25-year-old's commitment to the South Coast side and made him captain for the draw with Millwall in the FA Cup fourth round.
Oakley told the Saints official website: "I am absolutely delighted to have signed because I can see a lot of good things happening at this club and want to be part of them."
Gordon Strachan has taken the normally relegation fighting side into the top five of The Premiership this season and the club have never looked back since abandoning their spiritual home of the Dell and moving into the luxury surroundings of St. Mary's.
The player has made just under 20 appearances for the club this season and added: "The new stadium has made a big difference, we are filling it every week and, unlike some clubs, we are financially stable.
"I would not have signed for the club if I did not see a promising future for the club.
"I am ambitious but I believe I can have success here."
