Stoke City boss Tony Pulis aims to sign a striker before the transfer deadline, with Southampton's Ricardo Fuller mooted as a target.
Pulis is keen to boost his attack before the close of the transfer window on Thursday and has targeted a current Championship player.
He has also been on a scouting mission abroad to assess possible signings and confirmed his desire to bring in fresh blood.
"I'm still hoping to bring one or two in, but this is a big operation here that's got to be done over a period of time," Pulis told The Sentinel.
"Some people will be patient, some won't be.
"I've made mistakes with signings, like everyone has, but I always try to only bring in players who will improve the team.
"I know people were hoping five or six would come in and only two have so far, but Vincent Pericard and Danny Higginbotham have both improved the team."
Reports have suggested that Saints forward Fuller is the player who has been identified by Pulis after failing to make an impact under George Burley at St Mary's.
The Jamaica international has made just one Championship appearance this season and spent a spell on loan at Ipswich Town last term.
