Southampton's John Viafara looks likely to miss the beginning of the season.
Southampton's John Viafara may miss the beginning of the new season, according to manager George Burley.
Viafara is currently participating in the Copa America with the Colombian national side, and is set to undergo assessment to analyse his readiness for the new season.
With the Saints squad set to return to training on Monday, Viafara is likely to miss a substantial amount of preparation sessions, and the 28-year-old's absence will be greatly affected by Colombia's progression in the tournament.
"Most of the players are back in on Monday, but a few have a bit of extra time as they have been on international duty," Burley told the club's official website.
"We will have to wait on John and see how far Colombia go in the tournament and whether he needs any additional time.
"We are set for pre-season and ready to go again."
The Championship side will be looking to be at maximum strength from the offset this season, as they look to shrug off their play-off disappointment.
