Southampton new boy Frazer Richardson is facing three months on the sidelines after suffering a dislocated shoulder.
Richardson only joined the Saints for an undisclosed fee from Charlton Athletic earlier in the month, but will miss the start of the new League One season.
The 27-year-old picked up the injury when he landed awkwardly after going up for a header during a session at the club's training camp in Switzerland.
He has returned to England and undergone a surgery on the injury, with Southampton expecting Richardson to be out for three months.
Saints were also in friendly action on Saturday as Alan Pardew's side lost 2-0 to Sochaux, with new signing Danny Butterfield making his debut in the game.
