Plymouth youngster decides to stay at Home Park

Plymouth Argyle teenager Jack Stephens has rejected a move to Fulham in order to stay at Home Park. The cash-strapped Pilgrims had agreed a £125,000 fee with Fulham for Stephens, who has made six appearances since making his debut last September. However, after visiting Fulham and the club's training ground, the 17-year-old has decided to continue his immediate career at Plymouth. Pilgrims boss Peter Reid said of Stephens, who can play at right-back or in midfield: "Jack has turned down Fulham.

Disappointed

"He told me it was a superb set-up there and he had enjoyed having a look around, but he wanted to stay at Argyle and carry on his football education with us." Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle admitted the club had been hopeful of selling their youngster as the Pilgrims continue to struggle financially. Guilfoyle added: "You've got to remember he's a young kid, but we need funding, so I'm disappointed. "I'm exploring all avenues open to me but, at the moment, they aren't coming off."
