The 31-year-old was handed his first call-up for his country by Roy Hodgson after impressing in the Premier League for Southampton last season.
Lambert finished last term as the joint-leading English goalscorer in the Premier League, along with Frank Lampard, scoring 15 goals in his first campaign in the top flight.
Neville has been impressed by Lambert and feels he will handle the occasion if he wins his first cap against Scotland at Wembley.
"We talked about Rickie Lambert during our times together, but the opportunity has come now for Rickie and we are looking forward to seeing him," Neville told Sky Sports News.
"At the end of the day it's there, the opportunity for everybody to take it, and hopefully he will get his opportunity against Scotland on Wednesday.
"I think he has got confidence having watched him quite a lot of times last year for Southampton. He certainly has got the confidence to be not fazed by the occasion and has a good arrogance a forward needs to come on the pitch, play the game and score a goal and I think he certainly has the ability to do that."
