The Poland international was forced to leave the field on the hour mark at Stamford Bridge when his hand appeared to collide with the goalpost as he attempted to keep out a Demba Ba effort.
Ba's effort hit the post but the ball ricocheted nicely for Gary Cahill to force the ball over the line to make it 1-1 after 55 minutes and Chelsea went on to win the game 3-1.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino confirmed after the game that the former Celtic keeper had been taken to hospital for X-rays, which are believed to have confirmed the break.
Boruc, who had looked solid after his gaffe at Arsenal last weekend, was replaced by Paulo Gazzaniga but the Argentinian failed to impress and looked decidedly slow in getting down to Ba's late third for the home side.
But with veteran Kelvin Davis also currently sidelined by injury, Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino will have little option but to continue with Gazzaniga for the time being.
