Saints had lost to Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa before they drew with City at the weekend, in a game which manager Mauricio Pochettino felt they could have won.
They conceded after 10 minutes to a Sergio Aguero goal but Dani Osvaldo's 42nd-minute equaliser earned them their first point in four games.
The draw stopped the rot for Southampton having suffered three successive defeats for the first time since Pochettino's arrival.
They were without seven first-team players, including goalkeeper Artur Boruc, Victor Wanyama and Nathaniel Clyne - and Lovren thinks their approach to the game shows the quality of the side.
"It's really important," said the Croatia international. "I think the most important thing now was keeping our game and keeping our style.
"We didn't panic and I think that's the important thing, to keep our style, to have the confidence.
"Okay, it was a little bit difficult after three games we didn't win, but we were showing the character and I think we have a good squad, a positive squad.
"Everybody is in the head prepared for everything, so we need just to believe and to play our game."
