The 27-year-old joined Rovers from Southampton last month after a short-term loan at Reading came to an end, having scored two goals in 10 games.
Sharp, who played for Doncaster from 2009 to 2012, is hoping that his return to the Keepmoat Stadium will result in a permanent deal.
Ahead of Rovers' trip to Brighton, Sharp told the Daily Star: "I'm not too sure what will happen, I'll just have to speak to Southampton to see what they want to do.
"Hopefully I can put myself in the shop window. I don't want to go out on loan all the time but I'd rather that than sit and rot.
"Hopefully I can tie down something permanently. I just feel in the last 12 months I've not played much football."
Having featured in just 13 Sky Bet Championship games this year, Sharp is hoping to make a quick impact for Paul Dickov's side.
"I have a good relationship with the fans and hopefully I can score a lot of goals," he added.
