Xherdan Shaqiri insists that Stoke are an ambitious club and it was this that made him join the club in the summer.

The 23-year-old winger, who started Saturday's 2-1 win over Bournemouth, says he is loving life in the Premier League after signing from Inter Milan in a £12m deal in August - and he feels like he has "arrived in the best league in the world".

Shaqiri said: "Although it's true that Stoke don't yet have the same kind of international reputation, the club is pursuing ambitious targets.

"They want to establish themselves in Europe and that's what tempted me here. Stoke are offering me the opportunity to continue developing both as a player and as a person.

"Above all I want to play, perfect my game and move forward with the team."

Shaqiri spent an ill-fated two-and-a-half-year spell at Bayern Munich in which he made only 26 starts in the Bundesliga, before making only eight Serie A appearances for Inter.

But he has made five excellent appearances for the Potters so far this term.

And he said: "The key element in Germany is discipline. The Germans are very focused on playing disciplined football.

"Football in Italy was very tactically (orientated), and now here in England I can sense a real emphasis on attacking play.

"The football here is tough and spectacular, and I'm enjoying it. Although I've only played a few matches in the Premier League so far, I feel I've arrived in the best league in the world."
