Alexis Sanchez has powered to the Sky Sports Power Rankings summit following his brace in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Manchester United on October 4.

The 26-year-old forward, who scored in Chile's 2-0 victory over Brazil on Friday, shot into the top 10 in the previous week's rankings following his hat-trick during Arsenal's 5-2 win over Leicester on September 26.

Sergio Aguero soared 205 places up the charts following his five-goal haul in Manchester City's thumping 6-1 win against Newcastle to secure this week's second spot.

The Argentina star bagged 9,457 points during his explosive 66 minutes before being substituted at the Etihad on October 3 - over 3,500 more than any other player in week eight.

However, the 27-year-old will struggle to hold his spot after suffering a hamstring injury during Argentina's 2-0 defeat to Ecuador and could spend up to eight weeks on the sidelines.

The Power Rankings methodology reflects a player's performance over the previous five weeks - with each preceding week worth fewer points. This means the Power Rankings reflect the in-form players of the moment.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy landed third place in this week's rankings and replaced team-mate Riyad Mahrez at the top of the Sky Sports Season Rankings.

Forwards dominated the Power Rankings top 10 this week, with Southampton duo Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle occupying fifth and sixth place respectively - both scored in the Saints' shock 3-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 3.

West Ham's attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet continued his gradual climb up the ranks to land this week's No 7, while Everton's Romelu Lukaku rose two places to eighth.

Other notable risers in the top 50 included Arsenal trio Nacho Monreal (fourth, up 29 places), Mesut Ozil (11th, up 98) and Petr Cech (16th, up 119).

Manchester City's £54.5m summer signing Kevin De Bruyne (12th, up 100), Tottenham's Christian Eriksen (13th, up 87), Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye (ninth, up 40) and Stoke defender Glen Johnson (14th, up 84) also entered the top 20 after impressive displays for their clubs.

Numerous goalkeepers plummeted down the rankings this week after Hugo Lloris and Boaz Myhill topped the charts in the previous two weeks.

Newcastle's Tim Krul received the worst Power Rankings score this week with -13,606, followed by Sunderland's Costel Pantilimon (-7,998), Manchester City's Willy Caballero (-6,384), Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel (-6,160) and Liverpool's Simon Mignolet (-5,952).
