The Robins have made an improved bid for the 22-year-old but Wilson has admitted that negotiations have hit a bit of an impasse with The Potters and he is prepared to look elsewhere for fresh faces.
"The situation with Stoke seems to be at something of a stalemate," Wilson told the club's official website.
"They naturally want as much as possible for Marc, while we are not prepared to go beyond the figures we have spoken of.
"We do have other targets in mind and it may be that we have to start chasing them up.
"I am determined to bring in a new face if at all possible because it's important that we push on after a very good Christmas."
Meanwhile, defender Darren Jones has extended his loan spell with nearby Conference club Forest Green Rovers.
The 20-year-old has been at The Lawn since late November, having made five appearances for the Gloucestershire non-leaguers.
It is the youngster's second loan spell with Forest Green, having played for the club last season, and he enjoyed a similar stint with Division Three club Cheltenham Town earlier this term.
In other news, the club have parted company with youngster Lee McGuire after a little more than a year in the club's academy.
