Shrewsbury Town have signed Stoke City right back Andy Wilkinson on loan.Shrewsbury Town have signed Stoke City right back Andy Wilkinson on loan until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old, who can also play as a centre back, started the season with a six-month loan spell at Scottish First Division club Partick Thistle.
Wilkinson also spent time in The Conference last season with Telford United, where he faced The Shrews.
Potters boss Tony Pulis was happy for the League Two club to take on Wilkinson after the youngster penned a new contract at The Britannia Stadium.
The deal includes a recall clause, should Stoke need to bring the defender back to the Championship side.
"He's a player that they don't want to get rid of and that speaks volume of how Stoke rate him," Shrews boss Gary Peters told the club's official website.
"We'd have had him in here on Monday, but Stoke wanted to tie him up on a contract for next season first.
"We've got our fingers crossed that if he does well for us, then there's the possibility we could loan him for the whole of next season."
Peters's quest for more new faces has led him to trial four players in the club's reserves this week.
Former Wolves man Anthony Goodison, former Crewe Alexandra and Halifax Town defender Adam Yates, former Watford and Leicester City centre back Rob Williams and former Coventry City midfielder Mark McDennis will all feature in Shrewsbury's second string.
