Yeovil stunned Ipswich in the first round of the Carling Cup as Lincoln thrashed Crewe.

Gary Johnson's side are currently propping up League One but their long journey to Suffolk was rewarded with a 2-0 success at Ipswich.

Darren Way opened the scoring against the Championship club on the stroke of half time and pacey striker Kevin Gall (pictured) wrapped up the win with three minutes remaining.

Lincoln crushed Crewe 5-1 at Sincil Bank, despite two divisions separating the first round opponents.

First half goals from Lee Beevers and Maheta Molango had Lincoln in control before Richard Walker pulled one back just before the break.

The League Two side extended their lead on 64 minutes through Gary Birch and he scored again three minutes later before Marvin Robinson rounded off the emphatic victory.

Leon McKenzie scored in the last minute of extra time to sneak Norwich City into the second round after a 1-0 win at Milton Keynes Dons.

Ben Chorley missed a penalty for the home side in extra time, and a last-gasp mistake from MK Dons keeper Matt Baker gifted McKenzie the winning goal

Hull City were another Championship club to fall to a lower league side after they threw away a lead to lose 2-1 at Blackpool.

Jason Price scored after four minutes at Bloomfield Road but a Peter Clarke penalty and Simon Grayson goal gave Blackpool the win.

Stoke City were also dumped out of the competition after losing to Mansfield Town on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Field Mill.

Dave Brammer's spot kick put Stoke ahead on 11 minutes before Gareth Jelleyman equalised five minutes later. There were no goals in extra time before the visitors fluffed their penalties as Mansfield won the shoot-out 3-0.

Brentford sit at the top of League One but they were hammered 5-0 at League Two outfit Cheltenham Town.

John Melligan scored after five minutes for Cheltenham and second half goals from Gavin Caines, Jamie Victory and Grant McCann (2) put Brentford to the sword.

League Two table-toppers Barnet stunned Bristol City with a 4-2 success at Ashton Gate.

Scott Golbourne gave the hosts the lead on 14 minutes but Barnet were level within three minutes through Dwane Lee.

He put Barnet ahead on 53 minutes and Nick Bailey added to the lead five minutes later. Michael Bridges' first goal for The Robins reduced the arrears but Lee Roache restored the cushion nine minutes from time.

Leicester City overcame the potential for a banana skin as they easily beat ten-man Bury 3-0 at Gigg Lane.

Joe Hamill and Richard Stearman scored in the space of three first half minutes to put Leicester in command.

Bury's Allan Smart was sent off early in the second half for violent conduct and Joey Gudjonsson's penalty just past the hour eased The Foxes into the second round.

Leeds United enjoyed a comfortable time at home to Oldham Athletic as goals from Michael Ricketts and Frazer Richardson sent The Whites through.

Luton Town were also convincing winners as they beat Leyton Orient 3-1 on their travels.

Chris Coyne netted on the cusp of half time before Warren Feeney scored his first goal for Luton on 71 minutes.

Gary Alexander put through his own net before Orient notched a last minute consolation through Daryl McMahon.

Crystal Palace took time to find their stride against Walsall before running out 3-0 winners at Selhurst Park.

Tony Popovic's penalty on 51 minutes broke the deadlock and goals in the last 10 minutes from Danny Granville and Michael Hughes sealed the win.

Millwall recorded a much-needed win as goals from Barry Hayles and Carlos Fangueiro - his first for the club - clinched a 2-0 triumph at home to Bristol Rovers.

Ade Akinbiyi pounced for a last minute winner as Burnley edged past Carlisle United 2-1 at Turf Moor.

Michael Duff had given The Clarets the lead on 52 minutes, only for Adam Murray to level matters for the League Two side on 74 minutes.

Matthew Jarvis' 83rd minute goal was enough to give Gillingham a 1-0 win at home to Oxford United. The North East derby went the way of Hartlepool United as the League One club beat Darlington 3-1 at home.

Jon Daly put Pools ahead on 26 minutes and the lead was added to on 76 minutes by Michael Proctor's first goal for the club.

Carlos Logan brought Darlington back into the game on 81 minutes but Proctor extinguished the fightback with his second goal of the match two minutes from time.
