Midfielder to ink deal until 2013

Rory Delap is set to hand Stoke a boost ahead of their FA Cup semi-final with Bolton by signing a new deal. The versatile performer is poised to ink a 12-month extension to his contract to keep him at the Britannia Stadium until 2013. Delap has established himself as a key member of Tony Pulis' plans since arriving at Stoke on a permanent deal in January 2007 after impressing on a loan spell at the club. Pulis insists the 34-year-old deserves his new contract for his services to the club.

"Rory deserves it. He has been a very big part of this club," said Pulis. "It is not just what he does on the field. He gets his reward for what he does off the field." Delap has carved out a reputation as a long-throw specialist but Pulis insists there is much more to the player's game than that skill. "You do not play over 500 leagues game, 400 of them in the top flight, to be just the person to pick the ball up and throw it in the box," added Pulis.
