Tony Pulis was angry with how his side performed during Stoke City's 2-0 defeat at struggling Wigan Athletic.
Wigan were relatively untroubled as Stoke failed to muster any meaningful attempt on Ali Al Habsi's goal during the game, as Peter Crouch looked a frustrated figure with the service provided to him.
And Pulis admitted his side did not deserve to take anything away from the DW Stadium.
"The better team won," he told
Sky Sports.
"I can't be too severe or critical of the players for what they have done this year but today, we were nowhere near it.
"We brought 2000 supporters here, and the players get paid for every week they play and every week they train. But I can't be too critical because as I said they have been fantastic this season and hopefully this is just a blip."
Despite a long domestic season coupled with Europa League commitments, Pulis refused to blame tiredness as a reason for the performance.
"We've had a good rest this week," he added.
"We've not worked them that hard. So we felt the preparation was good, but the mental approach, they're human beings and they aren't going to be bang on every time.
"But they must play a lot better than they did today."
