Peter Crouch wants to stay at Stoke City for 'a few more years'

Peter Crouch is hoping to stay at Stoke for the foreseeable future, he told Goals on Sunday.

The Potters front man was reacting to comments from his former manager Harry Redknapp who admitted that, having already signed Crouch three times in his career, he tried to recruit him again while he was in charge of QPR.

“He’s a good player. Not because he’s sitting here but he’s a fantastic lad,” said Redknapp. “I think he’s an excellent player. He’s scored goals everywhere, including England.

“He came to play for me at Portsmouth, Southampton and Tottenham. I’d have took him to QPR if I could. We tried a few times but couldn’t manage to get him.”

While Crouch was appreciative of such compliments, he insisted that he is more than happy at Stoke and wants to continue at the Britannia Stadium.

“It would have been nice. Obviously QPR was where I started,” he remarked. “I was there when I was nine-years-old and a lot of friends and family are QPR fans.

“I wish the club well but I’m very happy where I am at the moment. I love it at Stoke and hopefully I’ll be there a few more years.”

The immediate focus for the former Liverpool and Portsmouth striker is helping Stoke as they aim to record their best Premier League points total. They are currently seven points off their previous best total of 50, with seven games to play.

“That was the target. We’ve gone through a little sticky period in recently,” added Crouch.

“We’ve lost a few games and that was a massive goal for us in the last minute to get a result because we would have gone a few on the bounce without a victory.

“All in all we’ve had a very good season and if we finish in the top 10 that’s a great achievement for Stoke City. We did it for the first time in the club’s history last season and if we can do it again that’ll be a big achievement.”
