The defender expressed his desire last week to sign with The Shrimpers for next season and new Southend manager Steve Wignall has verbally come to terms with the 28-year-old.
Wignall will hope Warren can help lead the Roots Hall outfit in a push for promotion next season, as the club look to vastly improve on this term's disappointing campaign.
"Mark has verbally agreed to join us," Wignall told the club's official website.
"He is going away on holiday tomorrow for two weeks so logistically he couldn't get in because he has also been relocating.
"All being well, he will come back in and have his medical, which all players that come to this club will have, and hopefully sign his contract."
The Shrimpers are also expecting fellow defender Leon Cort to sign a new one-year contract by the end of this week though Wignall has released his 12th player since taking charge, as goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan left the Roots Hall club on Tuesday.
As Wignall looks to mold his team for next season, released Southend player Daryl Sutch is looking to start the new season by signing with Boston United.
The former Norwich City man has had talks with the York Street outfit and is impressed by The Pilgrims' current set-up, following his departure from Roots Hall.
"I've been up to have a look around and meet their manager Neil Thompson and I was really impressed," Sutch told the Eastern Daily Press.
"They've got a good set-up there, the manager's getting a decent squad together and everyone seems really optimistic about next season.
"I'm really keen to sign for them and hopefully everything will be sorted out by the end of the week."
