Caretaker boss Dave Webb - taking charge of the side following the sacking of Steve Wignall - guided his side to victory with goals from Tesfaye Bramble (70) and Jim Corbett (78) with Daniel Nardiello's 90th minute goal proving to be nothing more than a consolation.
Wycombe sealed their place in the third round with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory over high-flying Plymouth at Home Park.
Two early goals from Jermaine McSporran (8,15) put the visitors in control, but goals from Graham Coughlan (32) and Micky Adams (34) brought the game into extra time.
Wycombe managed to hold their nerve the best in the tense shoot-out to go through to the next round.

McKenzie then put Peterborough in control with a quick-fire double (81, 86) before Stephen Hunt grabbed a late consolation in stoppage time from the penalty spot.
Luton put their name in the hat for the next round with an impressive 2-1 win at Rushden & Diamonds.
Enoch Showunmi gave Luton an early lead after just seven minutes and Michael Leary added a second from the penalty spot 12 minutes later.
Rodney Jack pulled a goal back for the hosts three minutes later, but Luton held firm for the win.
Queens Park Rangers survived a scare from Conference side Dagenham & Redbridge before going through to the third round with a 2-1 win at Loftus Road.
Gino Padula gave the Division Two side the lead on 38 minutes and Kevin McLeod doubled the advantage eight minutes from time.
Anthony Scully pulled one back for the visitors on 87 minutes to give them hope, but QPR held on for the win.
Colchester knocked out Yeovil 4-2 on penalties after the game finished 2-2 after extra time.
Jake Edwards fired Yeovil in front on 11 minutes, but Marvin Andrews levelled matters four minutes before the break.
Kevin Gall restored Yeovil's lead on 66 minutes, but Scott McGleish ensured the game went into extra time with a 77th minute equaliser.
Neither side could muster a goal in the extra 30 minutes and it was Colchester who held their nerve best from the spot to progress.
