Steve Palmer netted the opener for Rangers on 13 minutes with his first goal since the opening day of the season and Tony Thorpe made sure of the win with the second five minutes from time.
Kevin McLeod added salt to Wednesday's wounds with a third goal in injury time to cap a good day for Ian Holloway's men.
Plymouth remain a point behind QPR after a 2-0 success at Colchester.
