League One round-up

Hull City are top of League One after a 3-1 victory at Stockport County.

Hull City have overtaken Luton Town at the summit of League One with a 3-1 victory at bottom club Stockport County.

Peter Taylor's side took an early lead at Edgeley Park through Aaron Wilbraham, though The Hatters went into the break on level terms after Danny Adams scored mid-way through the first half.

The Tigers, however, secured the three points after the break, as two goals in four minutes from Jason Price (61) and Danny Allsopp (65 - pictured) sent the Humberside club two points clear at the top of the table.

Luton drop to second after coming from a goal down to draw 2-2 with struggling Peterborough United at London Road.

After a goalless first half, Kevin Nicholls gave The Hatters the lead nine minutes after the break before Calum Willock scored the first of his two goals on 73 minutes.

Willock gave Barry Fry's side the lead with eight minutes remaining before Steve Howard earned a point for Luton three minutes later.

Tranmere Rovers are five points adrift of the automatic promotion places after thrashing Torquay United 4-1 at Prenton Park.

Goals from Eugene Dadi, Jason McAteer, Gary Jones and Paul Hall were enough for Brian Little's side to see off The Gulls, who replied through Adebayo Akinfenwa in the first half.

Sheffield Wednesday are fourth after heaping more misery on crisis club Wrexham with a 4-0 win at Hillsborough.

All the goals came in the second half, with Steven MacLean giving The Owls the lead four minutes after the break from the penalty spot moments after Stephen Roberts was sent off for violent conduct for the visitors.

Wednesday's on-loan striker Kenwyne Jones then scored a brace inside four second half minutes to make it three before Paul Heckingbottom sealed a very good win for Paul Sturrock's side with six minutes remaining.

Hartlepool United stay in the hunt for a play-off place after a five-goal demolition of struggling Milton Keynes Dons at Victoria Park.

Goals from Antony Sweeney (21), Adam Boyd (49,57), a Joel Porter penalty (80) and Andrew Appelby (90) secured an easy win for the North East club.

Bournemouth stay in the play-off places after a 1-1 draw at Doncaster Rovers.

John Spicer gave The Cherries the lead a minute before the break before Paul Green equalised in the second half for Donny.

The visitors also finished the match with ten men after Brian Stock was sent off for violent conduct.

Swindon Town got a second half brace from Grant Smith to defeat Bradford City 2-1 at Valley Parade, despite having Jerel Ifil sent off for a professional foul with less than a quarter hour remaining.

Dean Windass scored a consolation goal for The Bantams.

Bristol City are two points adrift of the play-off places after salvaging a 2-2 draw at Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers had a two-goal lead through a Bradley Orr own-goal in the first half and Pawel Abbott just before the hour mark.

However, The Robins fought back at The Galpharm Stadium as Leroy Lita made it 2-1 on 71 minutes before a Nathan Clarke own-goal in the dying stages earned Brian Tinnion's side a point in West Yorkshire.

A first half own-goal from Walsall's Joe Broad gave Brentford a 1-0 win at Griffin Park.

Chesterfield came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Barnsley in the early kick-off at Saltergate.

The Tykes had a 2-0 lead at the break - thanks to a first half brace from Michael Boulding.

The home side, however, got back into the match when Caleb Folan scored five minutes after half time.

Roy McFarland's side then earned a point when Shane Nicholson made it 2-2 in the dying stages in North Derbyshire.

Colchester United and Oldham Athletic had to settle for a goalless draw at Layer Road.

Finally, a second half brace from striker Lee Matthews - the second coming from the penalty spot - gave Port Vale a much-needed 2-0 win at fellow strugglers Blackpool.
