Luton Town boss Mike Newell has spoken to skysports.com about his targets.
Luton Town boss Mike Newell has confirmed to skysports.com that he is still hoping to snare Colchester star Neil Danns, despite missing out on a deal before the closing of the transfer window.
The U's midfielder has impressed a number of scouts with his prolific goalscoring this season, and contributed another two in Saturday's 3-1 FA Cup victory over Derby.
The Hatters have been following the former Blackburn man for some time but were unable to hammer out a deal before midnight on Tuesday, and with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, it appears a tribunal may be required to determine his future.
Premiership outfit Wigan, as well as Championship leaders Reading and Sheffield United, are also known to be interested in the 23-year-old, and Newell fears that if Danns continues his scorching form then Luton may be priced out of the pursuit in the summer.
Ç£Well I don't know [about a tribunal],Ç¥ Newell told skysports.com.
Ç£I don't know what the situation will be, it's closed now, the window, but we will have to see if we can afford him and I don't know.
Ç£The longer it goes, the more goals he scores, the more clubs that come in. We've been looking at him for a long time but we just haven't been able to get him out of there.Ç¥
Aside from a fine 2-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday, it was a frustrating January 31 for the Bedfordshire outfit as they also missed out on Hartlepool striker Adam Boyd.
Skysports.com had revealed that the League One outfit knocked back a bid of £500,000 for last season's top scorer, but Newell has not given up on the player he knows well from his time at Victoria Park.
Ç£You never know what might happen in the future,Ç¥ Newell added.
Ç£He's another one that we like and I've obviously seen first hand when I was up there.
Ç£But this happens, there are players, you can't get everyone you go for unfortunately and we will just have to see what develops in the future.Ç¥
