Phil Parkinson has dismissed suggestions he did not want to sign Jamie Cureton.
Colchester manager Phil Parkinson has shot down suggestions he was uninterested in signing loan striker Jamie Cureton.
Cureton made a favourable impression on Layer Road supporters and many had hoped to see Parkinson tie up a permanent deal for the player.
Parkinson claims he did try only for parent club Swindon to put the block on a transfer.
"Of course we tried to sign him," stated Parkinson. "But the reason we didn't is obvious - Swindon Town, his host club, called him back."
Parkinson believes the uncertainty that had surrounded the future of The Robins' top scorer Rory Fallon was the prime factor for The U's' failure to land Cureton.
Fallon has since moved on to Swansea in a £300,000 transfer while Parkinson is left to mull over what might have been.
"Any club would look to sign a player who scored seven goals for them in such a short space of time," added Parkinson.
"But Swindon recalled him because they were in the middle of a relegation battle and there were offers on the table for their leading scorer, Rory Fallon."
