Ward praises striker's contribution despite lack of goals

Colchester United striker Kayode Odejayi has been offered a new contract after his contribution was praised by manager John Ward. Odejayi initially joined the Us on loan from Barnsley in 2009 before making a permanent switch and his current deal expires at the end of the season. He has scored just four goals in League One this term and has not found the net since October, but Ward is keen to keep the 27-year-old. "I've made Kay an offer and he's someone I want to keep here," Ward told The Gazette. "I think Kayode will tell you himself that he wants more goals. That goes without question for a centre-forward. "But the contribution that he makes for other people has been recognised by the supporters. "Kay may not always catch the eye but he always gives his best and that's important."
