Sheffield Wednesday sign defender Frederico Venancio on loan

Sheffield Wednesday have signed defender Frederico Venancio on a season-long loan from Vitoria Setubal.

The 24-year-old is a former Portugal U21 international and has captained Vitoria for the past three seasons, featuring 134 times for the club.

He becomes manager Carlos Carvalhal's second signing of the summer transfer window following the arrival of George Boyd at Hillsborough.

"I've been waiting for this moment for so long to come to the English Championship, it's like a dream come true," Venancio told the club's website.

"I think my game is suited to England, I'm aggressive and I like to play my football at the same time.
