The Jamaican international arrives at Blundell Park following his release from Division One side Walsall last week.
The former Sunderland, Doncaster Rovers, Leicester City and Bradford City player will be reunited with Mariners caretaker boss Nicky Law, whom he played for at Valley Parade.
The 34-year-old claimed he will bring plenty of commitment to his new club, with Grimsby in a fight to avoid a second consecutive relegation season.
"I'm going to bring commitment, experience and have a lot of legs, and I'm sure I can help Grimsby get out of trouble," Lawrence told Grimsby's official website.
Lawrence's arrival was coupled by the news that Sheffield Wednesday boss Chris Turner has allowed midfielder Craig Armstrong to extend his loan with Grimsby until the end of the season.
