Luton deny Howard bid acceptance

Luton Town have announced that a £500,000 bid from Sheffield Wednesday for striker Steve Howard has not been accepted, despite an earlier announcement by the Hillsborough club that it had been.

The Owls revealed this week that an increased third bid was made for Howard and that the South Yorkshire outfit were awaiting news from The Hatters about their latest offer.

According to Wednesday's official website, the club stated they had received a fax at lunchtime on Friday that seemingly came from Luton's chief executive and appeared to have agreed to the £500,000 fee for Howard.

However, Hatters chairman Bill Tomlins has since contacted their Second Division counterparts to deny that the bid had been accepted and that no fax was officially sent to the Hillsborough club.

It is now being suggested by The Owls that the mystery fax may have been sent as a 'hoax' by a staff member at Kenilworth Road.

In the meantime, Wednesday boss Chris Turner still awaits a decision from the Bedfordshire-based club on their latest offer for the hit-man.
