Nottingham Forest needed extra time to see off Rotherham.Nottingham Forest needed extra time to see off Rotherham United, while Coventry City eased past Sheffield Wednesday.
Gareth Taylor was the hero for Forest as he scored both goals in their 2-1 win while Michael Doyle netted the only goal of the game at Highfield Road.
Rotherham took the lead on nine minutes when Chris Sedgwick slammed the ball through a crowd of players, but it only acted as a spur for Forest.
Taylor's first came on 17 minutes, as he calmly slotted home a fine cross from David Johnson.
Taylor went close later in the half when hitting a post with a rasping drive, while Paul Warne twice went close for The Millers.
The game drifted into extra time and it was Forest who showed the greater resolve, as Taylor headed in after Rotherham keeper Mike Pollitt failed to hold a shot.
Sheffield Wednesday travelled to Highfield Road with a chance to impress likely new manager Paul Sturrock, who was in the crowd, but they came away with nothing as a curling effort from out wide by Michael Doyle on 35 minutes was enough to sink the South Yorkshire side.
