Hull City pulled closer to leaders Luton Town with a 4-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday.Hull City have taken advantage of Luton Town's midweek defeat with a 4-2 away win at Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Luton's defeat at Brentford on Tuesday evening allowed The Tigers to close the gap with a win at Hillsborough and they made full use of the opportunity.
Things did not start well for the away side, as The Owls took the lead nine minutes in through on loan Joey O'Brien.
Hull manager Peter Taylor - who was making his debut as a player or manager at Hillsborough - saw his side restore parity minutes later through a Michael Keane penalty.
Nicky Barmby then put Hull into the lead mid-way though the opening half (pictured) before the former England international made it three with a sublime volley two minutes from half time.
John-Paul McGovern made it a one-goal contest with nine minutes left in the match, but Danny Allsopp made sure Hull won by two clear goals with a fourth two minutes later.
The result pulls The Tigers to within four points of leaders Luton while Paul Sturrock's Wednesday stay just outside of the play-off places.
The other League One match on Wednesday saw Huddersfield Town move closer to the play-off places with a 2-1 away win at Swindon Town.
Pawel Abbott gave The Terriers the lead on 19 minutes before Chris Brandon made it two 11 minutes before the break at The County Ground.
The second half saw both sides reduced to ten men, with Swindon's Jerel Ifil receiving his marching orders with a second bookable offence seven minutes after the break.
However, Huddersfield were to lose their man advantage with three minutes left after Lee Fowler saw red for serious foul play.
Two minutes later, substitute Grant Smith scored a consolation for The Robins, but Peter Jackson's side held on for the three points in Wiltshire.
