Owls boss Paul Sturrock is reportedly planning a raid on his former club for the experienced forward.
Sturrock learned earlier this week that Adam Proudlock would not return from injury before the end of the season.
With The Owls chasing promotion to The Championship, Sturrock is anxious not to be short of cover for the remaining weeks of the campaign.
He has targeted Evans, who can no longer command a regular place in Plymouth's starting line-up.
The recent arrival of Nick Chadwick at Home Park sparked rumours Evans would be offloaded, with Devon rivals Torquay United denying an interest in the 32-year-old.
But a switch to Hillsborough could be in the pipeline for Evans, who was signed for Plymouth from Bristol Rovers four years ago during Sturrock's reign at Home Park.
