Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern will miss the start of the season.Sheffield Wednesday have suffered a blow with the news that Jon-Paul McGovern will miss the start of the new season.
The 24-year-old is struggling with a back problem he picked up against Bradford in March.
McGovern has been unable to take any part in pre-season training and he has been ordered by a specialist to rest the injury.
The injury is set to keep the talented midfielder out of action until October and Owls boss Paul Sturrock admitted it was a major blow to lose McGovern.
"It's a huge blow. His performances had booked the wide right position for the start of the season in an area in which we have holes," Sturrock told the club's official website.
"JP has been told he needs four weeks' rest before he can start to build things up again.
"Then he would need to do the fitness work and get reserve games under his belt. We're looking at two-and-a-half months, at least."
