Millers slam Burton exit

Rotherham have slammed Deon Burton for the manner in which he left the club.

Rotherham have slammed Deon Burton for the manner in which he left the club.

The Jamaican international quit Millmoor for Sheffield Wednesday in a £110,000 deal recently, after he handed in a transfer request prior to Christmas.

But Millers chief executive Phil Henson has reacted angrily to the way in which the 29-year-old handled the move, telling the club's official website: "He showed a total lack of respect for the supporters and his fellow professionals."

Burton pulled out of Saturday's local derby with Doncaster, ringing in sick just two hours before kick-off, prompting Henson to add: "We were not happy with the very late explanation and the non-appearance of Deon last Saturday."
