Robins close to double swoop

Swindon have signed Andy Gurney and should tie up a deal for Lee Peacock soon.

Swindon have signed Andy Gurney and should tie up a deal for Lee Peacock soon.

Former County Ground favourite Gurney will return to the club he left in September 2004 on a permanent basis after he initially rejoined them on temporary terms at the start of the season.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Peacock is expected to snub a move to Walsall in favour of The Robins.

Saddlers boss Paul Merson had been particularly keen on landing Peacock, although he revealed that his club were unable to match the offer tabled by Swindon.

Robins boss Iffy Onuora told the Western Daily Press: "It's not sorted yet but hopefully we will land Lee in the next 24 hours.

"He has a physical presence and I have not ruled out the possibility of playing him along with Rory Fallon and Jamie Cureton.

"He is coming in as an addition and another option. It is not a case of one in, one out.

"I have known Lee a long time and what I have always liked about him is that he is mobile.

"I knew Lee personally when he played for Bristol City and I lived in Bristol. He's a good lad - that's important.

"He is keen to settle back down in this area and we hope to sign him for the rest of this season and then another two."
